Secrets to achieve your Resolutions & Goals

Let’s play a game of resolutions! I call it a game, because in games you don’t quite when you fail – you try again. That’s the first important secret of getting what you want in life.

We are all good at setting goals, but most of us also know upfront that we will not achieve all of them. And you know what? Exactly that belief of ‘probably not going to happen’ makes it possible for you NOT to reach your goals.

The main secret of goalsetting is to have the right INTENTIONS.
And the main intention that predicts your chances of success is the iron resolution NOT to give up on your goals… ever.

Why do we give up? When we approach the deadline and the goal is nowhere near completion we tend to give up, because crossing the finish line is impossible at this point. If you really want to succeed – don’t focus on the deadline but on the goal itself. Use deadlines as guidelines for your planning and solemnly COMMIT to achieve your goals – no matter what and no matter how long it would take!

Deadlines are movable – your goals are NOT!

With that in mind, here are my New Year’s resolutions that I committed to this year. I hope it will inspire you to join me:

SETTING MONTHLY MINI GOALS
Another secret to big success is taking baby steps! Small, doable action and intermediate goals. Break your big goals into smaller mini-goals. The ones that you are certain about to achieve in a month’s time or less. I’d rather be happy and proud of getting smaller goals done, than being disappointed after working hard and not achieving the big, hairy and scary goals. It’s all about Act of Accomplishment. That’s the real secret of success – getting things done.

PLAN DATE NIGHTS WITH YOURSELF
We usually focus on others during our working hours. In real time, it’s YOU who needs to act precisely, decisively, be ON, professional, considerate and extremely effective while performing at work. I don’t know how about you, but I forget myself in the midst of it all way too often. So this year, I commit to more personal time and attention. I stand by my punchline: When Assistants excel – others benefit.

FOCUSED ACTS OF KINDNESS
While attending various Life Success training programs I found a recurring topic in every coaching sequence of every big success guru: Contribution. If you want to experience a real sense of success your need to get involved in a contribution cause that is close to your heart. Just donating money is not enough when it’s something really important to you. My cause is support orphans and help them become adults they are meant to be, no matter the unfortunate events of growing up without parents. We are formed by our parents, good or bad, and that makes us who we are. Those kids will have a huge challenge in their lives which is there to stay. I cannot take it away, but I would love to make its impact slightly less powerful.
What’s your cause?

READ ‘SMART’ BOOKS
I have a huge library full of great books, gathering dust I must admit. I’m old fashioned like that, I love physical books. And every time I do find time to read I get at least one big revelation or a lesson from smart books. So in combination with ‘personal date nights’ I commit to read at least one ‘smart’ book a month.

PLAN CLEAN-UP DAYS
Although I’m a highly organized PA, my own life takes a backseat when it comes to organizing and cleaning up my own ‘to archive’ piles. And so, I commit to one full day a month to clean up, update and organize my own archive piles and working space. Being an entrepreneur, working long hours and being a mother to a 3-year old does make it more challenging, but I’m sure it will be very rewarding to get it done and be satisfied with myself.

SAY ‘NO’ TO THINGS THAT ARE NOT GOOD FOR YOU
This is a popular resolution, I must admit. To help you on this quest make a list of things to say NO to. Nothing too long, it has to be a list that you can summarize and keep at the top of your head at all times… 3 items are good enough. Next, stay alert and aware of the ongoing situations and find the courage to say NO when appropriate – politely but with a strong resolution and commitment. Remember, it’s about YOU! If you feel strong, happy and confident you will be amazing at everything you do.

SAY ‘YES’ TO THINGS THAT ARE REALLY IMPORTANT TO YOU
Here is the secret of getting results: a certain action sequence on how to realize your goals.
This is the actual Resolution List that we make each year. It’s a wish list, a Bucket List. Take some time to create a list of EVERYTHING that you would love to have in your life: personal, financial, business, spiritual and social. You will recognize the right goals by the intensity of your emotions attached to them. The stronger the emotions, the bigger your chances are to actually achieve them.

Here is your course of actions:

– Choose only 3 goals to work on
– Set a deadline to see first results within the first month
– Set the first 3 SMALL actions to every goal
– Plan these 9 actions into your calendar
– Once these 9 actions are done you define the next 3 small actions per each selected goal, plan the execution, do it and so on…

Keep in mind: Make your actions small, doable and most of all FUN!

I wish you an AWESOME 2016!
